NEC Africa appoints New Regional Manager for East Africa

Phillip Nganga as Regional Manager for East Africa,
Phillip Nganga to drive accelerated growth across the rapidly expanding market
NEC Africa has appointed Phillip Nganga as Regional Manager for East Africa, giving him overall responsibility for the performance and sustainable growth of the business across the region. Nganga brings almost 15 years of experience with NEC, having joined the organisation in May 2012. His appointment reflects NEC Africa's focus on developing local leadership and positioning its African operations for the next phase of growth.
"East Africa has tremendous potential, and we believe the time is right to take the business to the next level," says Nganga. "Our focus will be on expanding our customer base, strengthening our partnerships and broadening our portfolio of solutions, while continuing to deliver the trusted and reliable service NEC is known for."
A customer-centric approach to growth According to Nganga, a key part of his approach will be understanding customers' businesses and future ambitions before recommending solutions. At the same time, he sees NEC Africa playing an increasingly important role in helping customers and partners understand emerging technologies and prepare for what lies ahead.
The opportunity spans a rapidly developing market in which digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise technology and energy are expected to remain critical areas of investment. Governments, financial institutions, telecommunications companies and increasingly manufacturing, oil and gas businesses are all driving demand for technology that can support economic growth and digital transformation.
Expanding NEC XON's East African footprint Nganga identifies Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Rwanda as markets offering significant opportunities for deeper engagement, while emphasising the importance of expanding NEC Africa's local team and partner network.
"Visibility is particularly important for us," he says. "We want to strengthen our presence across East Africa and ensure that customers experience not only the quality of our solutions, but the long-term support and engagement that has always been part of the NEC relationship."
Building African leadership Gary Munro, NEC Africa VP African Operations, says Nganga's appointment is part of its strategy to accelerate growth in East Africa while building on its existing strengths. "Phillip has grown substantially during his time with NEC, and this appointment recognises the contribution he has already made while giving him the opportunity to take the next step in his management journey," says Munro. "We believe strongly in local knowledge and local leadership. Rather than parachuting people into management roles, we want to develop our own people and build an African business led by Africans."
The appointment follows William Hunter's move into a COO role, where his technical and project management experience will strengthen NEC Africa's delivery capabilities, particularly as the company prepares to undertake a major project in East Africa. Nganga says his ambition is ultimately straightforward: to make NEC Africa the partner of choice in the eastern part of the continent, combining the strength of the NEC brand with deeper local engagement and a broader portfolio of solutions.
